About This Project

Hyperion.ng is the open-source successor to Hyperion, a bias or ambient lighting system like the ones TV makers build in. It takes video from a grabber, works out the colors along each edge of the picture and drives an addressable LED strip mounted behind the screen. The CPU load is low enough for a Raspberry Pi, and it supports many LED devices and video grabbers. A multi-language web interface handles setup and remote control, a black-border detector keeps letterboxed films from washing out the edges, and a Python effect engine ships with 39 built-in effects. A JSON API and command-line tool make it easy to script or plug into home automation.
